Summer 2010

I will give away my secret to creating the Northern lights. It actually took me 10 mins to figure how,
I used a star drop behind a scrim. I front focused one ERS on the scrim with a color glass wave pattern
and single rotator, the opposite side same color glass another ERS w/different colors in single rotator.
I used Rosco colorizers and sticked to the colors I found during my northern lights research. Then I used a lot
of black wrap so the audience would not be distracted by any of the light bleeding out of the light.
Nor can anyone really tell where the source of light is coming from unless they look right or left.
I got over three layers of lights, plus christmas lights to do the twinkling stars, two sets of strands
in different circuits. Plus another set of front gobo's soft focused with a set of front R339 to
create a pre-aurora borealis when on the of actress says goodbye to her dead husband. I love layers,
textures and colors, so lighting this was very natural and effortless but fun for me.
I played with intensities off course to make the effect more realistic, which the picture below does not
necessarily reflect to the best of its quality.

"The Tempest" by William Shakespeare

Lighting Review by Michael Freeman of The Ledger, 02/22/2009:
Enjoy good theater? See "The Tempest"!

Before the lights even go down, as members of the audience continue looking for seats,
you hear it: the steady beating of the drum. Simple, almost primitive, like the drumbeat in a more primal society -

An island.

Then the lights fade into darkness, and suddenly it happens: the empty stage at Valencia Community College's Black Box Theatre
comes brilliantly to life, as air and fire and rain and water and the earth literally explode before you -- and not just because
of the dramatic lighting and sound effects. Air and Water and Earth and Fire - they're all played by a group of performers who
command the stage with their striking movements and cadenced dance. The island, just north of the African Coast in the Tyrrhenian Sea,
is awakening, coming to life. The people in William Shakespeare's "The Tempest" haven't even arrived on the scene yet. Read full review
